Kaleidoscope
By Suzanne Simanaitis
The editor of ARTitude Zine, Suz Simanaitis, invited over 30 artists to
submit projects and articles for this great book. Contributors include
Christine Cox, Randi Feurerhelm-Watts, Lisa Cook, Juliana Coles, Marilee
Fosbre, Terry Lee Getz, Sylvia Luna, Pilar Pollock and of course, Suz
Simanaitis and many others. The projects range widely and the book
definitely speaks to the "Volcano Arts Tribe." It's a really fun book and
I'm proud to have contributed. |

Illuminating the Word: The Making of the St. John's Bible
This book is incredible! It tells about the
making of the first fully illuminated manuscript (hand-written) Bible to be
made in over 500 years. It details how the calligraphic hand was
developed, the quill and parchment preparation and a million details that
are of interest to calligraphers, bookbinders (though the binding of the
bible isn't covered in this volume) or Bible scholars. A gorgeous book for a
very reasonable price. |

The (mini) Art Book from the
editors of Phaidon I
absolutely love this inexpensive book. I've used it for years as a great
quick reference. When an artist's name comes up and I'm unfamiliar with her
work I just turn to her name in the alphabetical book and I find out just a
paragraph worth of information about her and a photo of a representative painting
or other work. What I love most is that, since it's in alphabetical order,
it isn't tied to a particular period of time or school of art. You never
know what you're going to get when you turn the page! It's a lot of fun to
browse. |
