Product Recall
Weller 100 Soldering Iron

Note: This recall affects Weller 100 soldering irons manufactured between 8/06 and 5/10 only. All irons manufactured before or after that time are fine, and covered by the normal manufacturer's guarantee. We regret any inconvenience to our customers, but we're also gratified that the manufacturer is taking responsibility and doing what's fair (more than fair really: those irons are out of warranty and they're being replaced anyway). Please help us spread the word and help insure the integrity of Weller products.

Cooper Hand Tools website

A small number of Weller 100 soldering irons were manufactured with defective power cords, which could break where the cord meets the iron's handle. Cooper Hand Tools, is recalling all Weller 100 irons that were manufactured between 8/06 and 5/10. Here are the answers to the questions you're likely to have.

How can I tell if my soldering iron was made during the recall period?
There are 2 ways to tell. The first and easiest way is to look at the cord on your iron. If it says "Gold Mark," it was manufactured during the recall period and should be sent to Cooper Hand Tools.

The other way to tell is to remove the tip and see what dates are stamped on the heating element. The date will appear as MONTH YEAR (eg. Nov 06). Sometimes the nut can be welded into place from use. If so, check your cord as above. If the date falls within the recall period, it should be sent to Cooper Hand Tools.

What if my iron isn't broken and works fine?
Cooper Hand Tools has very generously offered to replace any iron manufactured during the recall period. In fact, they are encouraging people to send back irons that work just fine (or not). Just check for the dates first. When in doubt, send the iron to Cooper Hand Tools.

Who will pay for the postage?
Cooper Hand Tools will pay for the postage both ways.
Once you contact Cooper Hand Tools about your return, they will email you a UPS label.

What about the tip on my iron?
Don't send your old tip to Cooper Hand Tools as it will not be returned to you. The good news is that every iron comes with a bright, shiny new tip.

Does this apply only to Weller 100 soldering irons purchased from Volcano Arts?
No, all Weller 100 soldering irons are being recalled. No matter where you bought it, contact Cooper Hand Tools for a replacement iron.

Can I send my soldering iron to Volcano Arts?
No, please don't. The irons are being replaced free of charge by the manufacturer. We want our customers to have the best service, and we are confident that Cooper Hand Tools will take care of any problems or questions in a friendly and informational way. We've enjoyed working with them for years and this is the first time there's been a problem of any kind.
